چکیده

mushroom-arch technique introduced by Fujita in the 1970s,1,2 Takemoto and Scuzzo developed the lingual straight-wire (LSW) technique in 1995.3,4 Mushroom archwires typically require vertical steps and insets between the canines and first premolars, necessitating complicated wire bends that can affect treatment outcomes. The LSW method eliminated this problem, but the thickness of the lingual brackets was found to result in shorter interbracket spans, gingival impingement, and tongue irritation (Fig. 1A). We have developed a new LSW appliance that uses a planar archform to make arch coordination less difficult and permit the use of simpler mechanics, such as sliding techniques (Fig. 1B).

Determining shapes and dimensions of dental arches for the use of straight-wire arches in lingual technique

INTRODUCTION This study aims to determine the shape and dimension of dental arches from a lingual perspective, and determine shape and size of a straight archwire used for lingual Orthodontics. METHODS The study sample comprised 70 Caucasian Brazilian individuals with normal occlusion and at least four of Andrew's six keys. Maxillary and mandibular dental casts were digitized (3D) and the ima...

Digital technologies and CAD / CAM systems applied to lingual orthodontics : The future is already a reality

Lingual orthodontics has been gaining space around the world due to its particularity to offer a discreet treatment option, “invisible”, in “secret” for the correction of malocclusion, combining biomechanical efficiency and enhancement of the smile during treatment. As the brackets are on the lingual surface, the point of force application is closer to the center of resistance, maximizing the p...

Stiffness comparison of mushroom and straight SS and TMA lingual archwires

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to investigate the relative stiffness of straight and mushroom lingual archwires of different diameters, cross sections and alloys, plotting their load/deflection graphs and using a modified three-point bending test. METHODS Fujita's mushroom archwires and straight lingual archwires of different diameters, cross sections and alloys were derived by a virtual...

A method for stabilizing a lingual fixed retainer in place prior to bonding.

AIM The objective of this article is to present a simple technique for stabilizing a lingual fixed retainer wire in place with good adaptation to the teeth surfaces and checking for occlusal interferences prior to the bonding procedure. BACKGROUND Bonding of an upper or lower fixed lingual retainer using stainless steel wires of different sizes and shapes is a common orthodontic procedure. Th...

Adult Class II treatment using a new lingual bracket and skeletal anchorage.

quired several archwire bends to compensate for the lingual morphology of the teeth.1 Not only did this complicate the clinical procedure, but it led to archwire breakage in the bend areas and created impediments to sliding mechanics, potentially interfering with canine retraction. A sliding jig could not be used, and it was difficult to adjust angulations for the correction of root positions. ...
